Bargain Basement
That which we call Orange-Os would taste just as sweet…

Amy compares the prices of generic and brand-name Orange-Os, generic Os, and Cheap-Os candy

When it comes to spending your money, comparing different prices and products can really pay off.

Spendopolis’s specialty candy turns your tongue different colors. The most famous, Orange-Os, melt in your mouth, paint your tongue 25 colors, and cost $4. The nameless, or generic, Os are just as tasty, dye your tongue 23 colors, but cost only $1. Cheap-Os, which taste like cheese and turn your tongue green, cost 25 cents.

Sometimes prices will tell you something about the quality of what you’re planning to buy. Cheap-Os aren’t even worth the quarter they cost. But with Orange-Os, you pay for the candy and for its cool packaging and brand name. The generic Os are almost as cool as Orange-Os but cost a lot less. Are the two extra colors and the Orange-Os box really worth $3 to you?

Sometimes looking for a good price means going to other shops or waiting for the right sale to come along. In Markup Market, Orange-Os are $5.50 – $1.50 more than here. And during the annual Cavity-Free Planet parade, Orange-Os go on sale at the Candy Cache. Hold out until then, and you can buy them at a bargain price of $2.50. Comparing prices or waiting for a sale can save you a lot of money in the long run. And saving money now means you’ll have more of it in the future, when you might really need it.
